• SPECIAL POST : DERN IS BACK !

    SPECIAL POST :

    dern

    DERN gives us :

    1992 05 03 Londres (DRN Remaster 2 - final update)

    1980 04 20 Boston (DRN remaster)

    Thank you very much !

    Notes from Dern :

    "killburn 92 -

flac/wav-wav-FL.STUDIO10 (producer edition) normalize audio level(32-bit float) fades in/out, cut audience, etc. noise gate. -16-bitwav- you. I just started using the noise gate and am so happy with the results I am going to redo a lot of the ones I've done so far.

    boston 1980-
same as above, but using Cool Edit Pro for pitch correction.

Just about every one follows this pattern more or less. I also use fl10 (32bit float) to cut the FM talk out, remove gaps, split tracks if needed, make CD tracks fit the artwork etc.

Exceptions would be Essen '89 and San Antonio 'Mad Bob' 1986 - which follows-

    FLACorWAV-WAV-FLStudio10 (vol.corr.etc.)-CDr-Fostex MR8 for 16bit Mastering (using 'Natural' setting to reduce high freq.)-WAV-FLStudio10(final Master)-WAV-CDr-You

Another exception -Glastonbury 86- (which I haven't sent you yet) or for some rare LP/partial LP sourced tracks; I've used WAV Corrector to remove clicks and pops and to split tracks that are too large for FL10 to handle.

You have read in my manifesto that I would like to come up with a new term, because 99.9% of the REMASTERS (with a few exceptions) I've heard sound tinny and over-digitized to my ears, so I try to keep it very simple and to stay completely true to the orginal source, unless tinny sounding like 'Mad Bob' and 'Essen 89'

I was also proud to fix the volume on 'M' from 5-30-84, so many years of hearing the volume in the beginning being turned up. I can't believe no one fixed that before pressing cd's. the noise gate should work very well on that one also.

One more thing I've done for example 12-17-97 (another I've not sent yet) I took both the AUD and SBD sources to make it complete. which was not never before.

for 12-6-87 (not sent) I took all the best from all three known sources-stereo when possible- one source is MONO-and put them together so now its more complete w/ 14 tracks.

    One more tech. note.
I also use FL10 to balance correct too, rarely is this needed, but I
think Seattle 97 is one. Using either Pan or just raising the volume
of one channel, whichever seems more appropriate.

I also think that all these 'official' pressed bootlegs are total BS, because they would release things that are

    incomplete
off pitch and high-gen recordings like 'accuracy' - worst bootleg ever.
    wrong dates, song names etc.
    horrible audience recordings

    Best Regards to all -

    thanks for listening!"
